Great game but not worth the frustration...

Must admit, I’m not that fond of the universe, BUT my curiosity got the better of me and I think the studio did an AMAZING job on Beholder 1 and 2… Enough to get me curious. That said, this game is SO full of bugs! And in a way, it’s a bit sad since they’re not game crashing bugs. Game crashing bugs can be managed, you send a report, there’s details on what happened, SONY can even decide:"it crashes too often, we can’t leave it on the store as-is" (not that I’m necessarily advocating for it to be removed from the store) but they’re progression hindering bugs. Next quest won’t start is the most typical one I found. It’s particularly of an issue if you try to load a save. Had I to venture a guess, it seems like the saves doesn't save the complete state of the game (and control flags), so when you load, some of your saves technically work, but they're stuck in a state where the game won’t be moving forward anymore. There’s also the weird issues where I had to restart the game twice because it became unresponsive and the console once… Yet, all that without a single crash... Such a weird game… It doesn’t help that some design decisions were made that made the situation worst. Save game management comes to mind. Most often, when a game supports both autosave and manual save, they’ll be distinct. What I mean is that most autosave won’t erase your manual save, not so with Beholder 3. For reasons that elude me, they chose to store 20 (unsure of the exact number) saves and if you happened to have some manual save that are the oldest, they’ll be replaced. Ended up having to restart from the beginning 3 times, due to the combination of game states where progress is stuck and the game deciding on its own to erase manual saves. Now, this might be a purely personal point of view, but Beholder 3 also made the very sad decision to keep time progressing while you interact with other characters. I must admit, I don’t know why they did that… It makes it so, for me, that I won’t bother reading dialogue and just skip through most of it. Had they decided to stop time while you’re in the menus, while you’re interacting with other characters or while you’re filling reports on your computer, I’m pretty sure it would have made for a WAY better experience and it’s really unfortunate because the story seems to be very good. The story on its own is just amazing! Just by the glimpse I caught by skipping dialogue, the occupants have a well-thought story, branching paths, some decisions have deep implications on the overall options of the game. That’s where I’m so disappointed. It might not be the kind of game I’m naturally drawn towards, but I can still recognize a very good game and I think the Beholder series and the development team behind it deservers more credit, it’s just a shame that they released a game that’s riddled with so many progression bugs.
