Great classic style fast-paced shooter, with a stellar VR port!

This is a very fun game for anyone who has an appreciation for classic shooters. The gameplay can be very fast-paced and intense, and the game doesn't hold your hand like most modern games do. Graphically it's going for the old 90's era early-3D shooter aesthetic, and I think it nails it. The resolution is very sharp and it runs very smoothly (90 fps iirc). The only knocks I could level at it are that the jump/dash mechanic can be a little unwieldy at times, and some of the button mappings take a little time to become second nature. Also it sometimes looks a little choppy when going up and down stairs (I think maybe the camera is being jostled by the geometry of the staircase?). And I wouldn't necessarily recommend this game for VR newcomers, as it's pretty fast paced (though I didn't explore the comfort options). And the last point is that it's a little old-school with its save system. You can drop a one-time use respawn point anywhere you want by placing an item, and there are save points in the levels, but it's not constantly auto-saving, so you can lose progress if you aren't careful. Those minor quibbles aside, the game is great fun, and there's a lot of content to enjoy. It's also great for people who like to explore and find secrets, with plenty of hidden nooks and hard to reach places that reward the curious. The soundtrack didn't really blow me away, but parts of it remind me of Soul Reaver in a good way, so definitely not bad. But the main star of the show is the fast action. Dual wielding shotguns and circle-strafing around an insane mob of enemies is an awesome feeling in VR. The reloading mechanics of the weapons are based on simple gestures (like a flick of the wrist for the shotguns and revolvers) which adds to the game without being too much to pull off in the heat of battle. There's a good variety of weapons as well as consumable relics that give you temporary buffs and can really be a life-saver in tougher battles. The levels are massive and well designed, often looping back on themselves in satisfying ways. And the game overall is very large. It'll take quite a while to beat in general, and a lot longer if you're a completionist. So if you're a fan of old-school shooters, or just want a fast paced action game in VR, Wraith delivers. Highly recommended!
