One of my favourite VR games.

This game is criminally underappreciated in my opinion. Part of that could be it launched alongside the PSVR1, and a lot of people weren't able to handle full-locomotion VR yet (the pre-patch framerate didn't help either). Part of it might have been people expecting it to be a horror game. It's not. I'd describe it as a walking sim with horror and light stealth elements. It's a surreal experience, but it's one that's very much worth having. The game is basically a metaphorical tour through the underbelly of the human condition. On its surface, you're searching for a lost love, but the story is much deeper than that. The narrative is sparsely told through one sided phone calls, occasional cutscenes/flashbacks, with allusions to the state of the world (and humanity) told through scenes unfolding around you, and bizarre narrated audio when you collect photographs hidden throughout the environment. It's a game that really rewards exploration and contemplation. There are subtle details and hidden events that are easy to miss, rewarding multiple playthroughs. The environments are incredible to explore with a massive sense of scale, and I think back on them often when I see similar places in real life. The visuals are really great considering the limitations of the PSVR. And the narrative (no spoilers) has one of the coolest wrinkles I've seen in any game's story, and has lived rent free in my head since I first played it in 2020. The gameplay beyond experiencing these things doesn't really have much going on. You'll find batteries around the environment to keep your flashlight going, but mostly you'll just be walking or running and sneaking past/avoiding enemies. While I wouldn't call this a horror game, there are uncomfortable and disturbing scenes, tense segments, and a couple jump scares that can really get you. But this isn't a game about mechanics, it's about the mood, the atmosphere, the trippy and surreal experience of going through it, and the narrative that if you take the time to really process and understand it, will stick in your head for years. This can be experienced without PSVR, but I really think you'd be missing out. Honestly if you can find a used PSVR cheap enough, I'd highly recommend picking it up for this game (and many of its other excellent exclusives). This game isn't easy to describe in words. It has to be experienced. When you look over the game mechanics and elements, it might not seem essential, but it's one of the most interesting and memorable games I've ever experienced and I recommend it as highly as possible.
