The Gallery — Dual-timeline mystery with strong performances

The Gallery has a really interesting concept thanks to it being playable across two different time periods — 1981 and 2021. This is a unique aspect of the game because it highlights how society has changed over time in a variety of ways. Since the story is set and filmed in the United Kingdom, there are also a few small references specific to that setting, but nothing that makes it culturally exclusive — the overall story and themes are still easy for anyone to follow. The game has a good story, high production values, and great camera / visual quality throughout. The choices are interesting and meaningful, and the acting is very strong — especially during the 1981 sections, which really stand out. Overall, I’d highly recommend buying this if you enjoy cinematic narrative games or FMV experiences. Warning: The game does contain a few scenes with upsetting or sensitive themes, although these are literally only a few scenes in the entire game. It also features smoking and drug use in several additional scenes. The game’s store page will give some indication of this through the content descriptors listed beside the age rating, but for more specific details about what those scenes involve you’ll likely need to check other sources as mentioned earlier.

An art curator is held hostage by a portraitist who threatens to detonate a bomb unless their demands are met. 'The Gallery' contains two interactive narratives - set in 1981 (with a female protagonist) and 2021 (with a male protagonist). Both eras are significant periods of socio-political unrest in Britain and there are distinct similarities and differences across the two stories. The viewer must make decisions in a bid to better understand and escape their captor. However, it soon becomes apparent that not only the life of the protagonist hinges on these decisions, but also the lives of others.

This live-action (FMV) game/interactive film features:

- Choice-based mechanics including 150 decision paths and 18 unique endings.
- Relationship-tracking mechanic which affects wider story in various ways.
- Success/fail tracking of sub-plots with supporting characters which affect wider story in various ways.
- Two game modes – ‘Timed Choices’ for a more immersive, pressured experience & ‘Paused Choices’ for group play / audience participation during live streams.
- Renowned acting talent, including Anna Popplewell ('The Chronicles of Narnia') and George Blagden ('Vikings' & 'Versailles') as the two leads.

Additionally, Paul Raschid - the writer-director, is one of the world's most prolific creatives in the live-action (FMV) video game genre. His previous feature-length titles 'The Complex' & 'Five Dates' were released in 2020.
