Amazing experience delivered without a single word uttered

The game is amazing with a storyline you piece together via clues all over the world. I was impressed by how much the game was able to tell and the world building it was able to achieve without a single piece of dialogue in the whole game. My only qualms are that some of the controls are bit weird, especially at the end and the game could do with a bit more of a hint system as to its mechanics; as I was practically stumbling into some of the abilities of my wraith. This is especially so when interacting with the environment.

A worthwhile journey packed with visual splendour

Sword of the Sea beautifully combines elements of*Journey, Abzû, and The Pathless, with a strong emphasis on movement, exploration and platforming. Surprisingly, in contrast to Journey, which is an artistic and auditory masterpiece, Sword of the Sea, for better or worse, feels less of an emotionally driven experience and more akin to a traditional game. From beginning to end, you’ll be speeding across a variety of visually stunning locations, uncovering hidden areas, collecting an in-game currency called Tetra, which is used to unlock new abilities, and even participate in an optional score-based mini-game. However, while Sword of the Sea is a lot of fun, echoing the addictive traversal mechanics of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it lacks a certain magic, one that in Journey, managed to evoke and inspire emotion. Ultimately, despite being an absolute blast to play, this game failed to elicit the reaction in me that I was hoping for.

Surf across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters on an epic quest to restore a lost ocean in Sword of the Sea.
From the visionary artist behind ABZÛ, The Pathless, and Journey – Sword of the Sea is an atmospheric surfing adventure with highspeed Hoversword movement inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding.

Awesome Surfing and Tricks
Carve your way forward on the ancient and powerful Hoversword, which moves like a snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard all in one. It’s the perfect balance of exhilarating action and fluid, meditative movement.

A Mysterious and Visually Stunning World of Waves
Explore a world where the land flows in constant waves. From massive tides to the smallest ripples, the shifting sea of dunes is incredibly detailed and beautifully rendered. Surf across sandy deserts, glacial mountains, and many more undulating environments full of secrets in this incredible adventure.

A Spiritual Journey to Unveil the Sea
You are the Wraith – resurrected in the desolate Necropolis on a quest to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land. Discover the remnants of a lost culture hidden in sinking tombs and skatepark-like ruins as you search for purpose. Transform sandy dunes into glittering, emerald waters and witness magical sealife return in huge, breathtaking shoals.
