This was my first experience in VR and suffice to say blew me away with its emersion and visuals. The thrill of meeting life size npc’s for the first time and a variety of VR mechanics from climbing to hanging to how you build, load & fire weapons and loot, etc. All mechanics that veterans may be used to, but for the newcomers it’s all new and impressive. So my rating is very much taking into account that the majority of people do not play VR. If you own the headset fans of the series would be doing a disservice not to try this game. Since becoming more experienced with the headset there are a few things worth mentioning. The game is reprojected 120fps, meaning it is, “showing every frame twice but moving it slightly the second time so it fills the space between the previous and following frame, giving the effect of the camera moving as if the frame rate was twice as high. So your head movements are effectively 120fps but the world itself is 60fps”. What this means is it can result in is some slight ghosting effect. The best option for all VR games is a native 90 or 120fps. My hope is for an PS5 Pro patch at some point to open up native fps if that is an option. Also, the game as the name implies does feature climbing, so if the combination of a lot of climbing and heights doesn’t appeal, this could be a problem for some. One of the best looking AAA games available for the headset as of writing, and also one of the few Sony first party contributions, so worth a shot!
