De GT8N is een renovatie van de GT6, die in de jaren 90 werd uitgerust met een middensectie met lage vloer en omgebouwd tot tram met acht assen. De GT8N staat bekend om zijn betrouwbaarheid en is in veel steden buiten Mannheim te zien, waaronder Łódź in Polen en Helsinki in Finland.
