I’m a veteran Risk of Rain player and this has been my favorite roguelike, mainly because so many others have been ruined - which this game is now starting to follow. Since Gearbox took over, they’ve put their own ambitions above the core vibe of the game, even trying to recreate the physics engine which still feels a little broken. Their two original character designs, Drifter and now Acolyte, suffer from backwards micromanagement that contradicts the whole premise of the game. Acolyte especially is a weak, slow, and frail addition that is basically impossible on Eclipse. Monsoon is possible, but the Trials stripping your items turns you back into a squishy mess that can’t handle anything 20+ minutes in. These characters need options that align with the core idea of Risk of Rain: speed and building strength to overcome exponential difficulty. The Sacrifice page is also an oversight. On controller you can very easily hit d-pad by accident and kill your character anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours into a run. Right now the game is turning into a time-wasting, micromanaged, over-designed experience, and they spoil a lot of content before release. The whole idea of a space exploration action roguelite was to explore and unlock achievements yourself - which they now kind of ruin. Acolyte was the last straw for me, which is why I’m leaving 1 star across the board. I can’t play her, even though her design and skills are so cool. It feels like nobody tested her on Monsoon or higher without dev commands. I hope you improve this character, and stop being so controlling over a game others built into success, however the review will stay as is due to you already leaving an impression Gearbox. A lasting one that has also hurt my impression of Hopoo due to them abandoning this game, and allowing you to destory it.

Ever since Hopoo abandoned this game to work on other stuff they'll most likely also abandon I've lost faith in them, and ALL faith in Gearbox. They don't play test without using dev commands, are destroying the fun, and take forever to listen and implement changes. To be this game is far past it's prime and will only get worse.
