We need more VR games like this!

Arken Age throws together a unique combat system that kinda feels like Halo mixed with Dark Souls. You have all kinds of crazy sci-fi weapons, mixing gunplay with sword-and-shield melee, and somehow it all works! Above all, this really feels like a game tailor-made for VR, with cool features such as being able to catch grenades in midair (and throw them back), switch to sniper scopes by closing one eye, and block enemy shots with realistic moves. The gameplay also evolves over the course of the levels. Early on, you'll mostly use the sword, and the first few levels are largely combat arenas. But later on, you'll assemble better weapons, encounter harder troops of enemies, and also navigate your way through trickier maze-like levels that reminded me of Metroid Prime. Thanks to this evolving design and the abundance of optional secrets to find, I found the game exciting all the way to the epic final boss fight. I think the main drawback of Arken Age is that most of the enemies are somewhat similar. Aside from the final boss and the sea monsters, you spend the whole game fighting humanoids and giant humanoids. To be fair, the enemies have excellent move-sets and varied equipment, so I never got bored of fighting them. Still, I would have appreciated more content (gun turrets, spiders, ninjas, flying enemies, etc.). Overall, Arken Age is a VERY impressive effort, and nice step forward for VR gaming.

One of the best games this year!

I'm going to be honest, it took me awhile to get into this one. I played a couple hours and it just wasn't clicking with me. It baffled me since this game got so much praise. Fast-forward months later and I gave it another chance. For some reason it absolutely hooked me this time, especially the further I got into the game. If it doesn't click with you right away, maybe push through and it might hook you eventually like it did for me.

MUST BUY!

This game gave me a taste of everything I love! A bright fantastic world where I'm an alien avatar lol. This is no James Cameron movie but you will definitely feel a bit of a living alien world here. For a VR game the first thing to know is you get a full scale body with great maneuverability. Seriously I feel a great 1:1 with this VR body. The options in a game settings really show you how much the developer can about their players. More games should adopt these settings. Next the weapons all start weak but with exploration you gain upgrade that can be mixed between guns. All weapons can have unique paint jobs as well to show off your flair.
