Nothing else like it
While many tactics games utilize a grid-format, think Final Fantasy Tactics or Triangle Strategy, Unicorn Overlord operates much differently - combing a dynamic free-flowing realtime system that you can also pause to decide your next move. There are layers to this that are hard to explain in a quick summary but thankfully the opening hours of the game do a great job of teaching you how all these systems work.
Unicorn Overlord absolutely nails the apex of tactics and progression, giving you all the tools you need to succeed without making you feel frustrated if a battle goes wrong. It’s also a game I loved enough to Platinum, which goes to just how much fun I continued to have with its core game mechanics over the entire experience. Hoping for a sequel.
