Fun Game!

Just finished the game and LOVED it! The story was great, the combat was smooth and extremely hectic at times, and the cut scenes were amazing. I've been a huge Insomniac fan for a long time now, and they gave us another terrific game. I did experience 3 glitches where I had to quit and restart the game, but nothing I would get bent out of shape about. If you're a Wolverine or X-Men fan, get the game and enjoy it and stop worrying about what other people say about it.

A Masterclass in Action

If you are looking for an absolute powerhouse of an action game, Marvel's Wolverine completely delivers. Insomniac Games has crafted something truly special here, taking the raw, visceral nature of Logan and translating it into an unforgettable interactive experience. The combat is wonderfully fluid, combining bone-crunching strikes with lightning-fast reflexes that make every encounter feel intense and satisfying. Beyond the action, the narrative hooks you right from the start, offering a gritty, deeply emotional character study that stays true to the iconic mutant. Add in breathtaking visuals and meticulously detailed environments, and you have an easy recommendation. It's a great pick if you're into stunning graphics, engaging storytelling, and smooth gameplay. An absolute must-play for any fan of the character or top-tier action games!

Very short and a lackluster confusing ending (Spoiler Free)

You can get the game done in about 14 hours. And that's with the exploration and other rewards too. It starts out pretty fun, but it definitely takes a dip about 40% of the way in and just drops. The ending is very confusing to say the least and it tries to play it off as cute and loving, but overall, just feels weird and kinda gross. The combat is pretty fun for the most part, it didn't really get to dull for me personally. There's a lot of choices that they made story wise that are pretty bold and for me personally don't pay off at all. Also, the hair physics and graphics in the game are awful. They will be there one moment and look fine but as soon as you're in the actual game, they look terrible. I enjoyed the performance of Wolverine though. There were quite a few characters in the game that don't really get any play at all in the game. They're just sorta there and for nothing else. There's also a lot of questions of logic in the game, while I understand it's a video game about an invincible killing machine with razor sharp claws, it feels like the game forgets that a lot. There's a lot of sections where your pathway is blocked by a chain on a door, and I kept thinking "just slice it up Wolverine!" but instead, you have to find a traversal way around to get inside the building. Which makes sense for a video game, but not logically for the character who has blades coming out of his hands that cut people into 6 pieces. The rewritten origin for Wolverine is very confusing, and you will end up thinking about and trying to understand it, but honestly, it just doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. There's a LOT of stuff that they're trying to set up for an X-Men game (presumably) but it just feels like wayyyyyy too much. I enjoyed Sabretooth's performance as well. He was a lot of fun, just being a big angry dude who's obsessed with Wolverine. Much like the comics and other media. Definitely underused though. But then again, you could say that about pretty much all of the side characters. Especially for Mystique. I was very excited for her character. And especially since it showed she had a wife like in the comics. Come to my disappointment that it's not Destiny (her longest love interest since like 80s) but instead a character called Tyger. I had never heard of this character honestly and it felt like a missed and or wasted opportunity. But it was nice to see the actress though (she had played Lady Deathstrike in X2). And now to the big moment. Jean and Wolverine. It's a very old and VERY tired out romance plot that pretty much everyone hates in all forms of media. Not only is it overused, weird and creepy. But also, a bit pathetic. But since Cyclops doesn't exist in this world seemingly, there's no weird love triangle. Still not the best pairing. Especially for their origin and how it all ties together. It's very weird, odd and just downright confusing. And it gives you little to no explanation except for a small cutscene after you finish the side-ops gauntlets. I had fun playing it though. They did have some cute moments though. But still the story wasn't very good though. I question where a lot of the budget went to as well for the game. I really enjoyed the environments though. Especially in the snowy Canada and the Japan cityscape. I wish we would've gotten to experience them a bit more. But it is what it is. Honestly after playing this and the past few Insomniac Marvel games, I'm questioning if the first Spider-Man game was just a fluke or if they just lost it after that game. Since literally every game after the 1st Spider-Man has just been uninteresting, boring, unfaithful to the source material and just lackluster experiences. Also, all the enemies look the exact same and are just copy and pasted just like the other games. Overall, not the best game, it had its moments. But that doesn't save it from its lackluster story and experience. Honestly, as an X-Men fan. I wish it could have been better.

It's a linear story so, there's not much open world. That's what I expected with a Wolverine game though. I had fun playing it and will probably give it a replay with the game+ feature.

Marvel's Wolverine — Review

I've been a huge X-Men fan since the '90s, and Wolverine has always been one of my favorite characters. I was hyped for this game for a long time — I even bought a Wolverine-themed PS5 for it. I avoided all reviews and gameplay videos beforehand to steer clear of spoilers, so I went in completely blind. Presentation This is a beautifully directed game. The cinematography is genuinely Hollywood-level, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the cinematics are excellent. The length felt just right — not padded, not rushed. Combat Combat is fun early on and genuinely challenging — the first boss gave me real trouble on Medium (Hunter) difficulty, and it's the only time I dropped the difficulty down and then worked back up. But by the back half of the game, once you've learned all the combos, fights start feeling repetitive. Your fingers just know the combinations by then. The skill tree is solid for the game's length, but a lot of the skills felt too similar to each other rather than distinct. Level Design & Exploration Mixed bag. Some levels are great, others just okay. I missed a few secret material chests more than once because it wasn't always clear where to go — this isn't a very exploration-friendly game. The whole experience constantly pushes you to keep moving forward, and I think it would've been much stronger with more freedom to explore at your own pace. On the plus side, I loved the destructible environments — a level starts quiet, the fight breaks out, and by the end everything's rubble and debris. Great touch. Characters & Design Costume variety is excellent — really well done there. Wolverine's character design is good, though I think he could've looked more brutal/feral. Voice acting across the board is excellent, no complaints there. Deathstrike, on the other hand, I really disliked — the design just felt off/unpleasant rather than intimidating, which made those fights uncomfortable rather than fun. Allies have some nice touches too — each one has a unique finisher — but in practice they barely deal damage and aren't much help in a fight. What really bothered me The game includes some L**T+-related content, and I want to be upfront that this isn't something I wanted in a Wolverine game. The moment it showed up on screen, my excitement dropped and turned into disappointment. I don't need or want a character's identity spelled out for me in a game like this — I'd rather it just wasn't there. If the studio wanted to include it, I think it should at minimum be something players can toggle off in settings, rather than forced into the main story. Verdict Did I enjoy it overall? Yes. Is it worth $70? No — I'd put it closer to $50. If you're after a cinematic, story-driven action game, this delivers. Just know going in that it includes political/social content some players may not want, and there's no way to opt out of it.

Reviews were right!

I'll be very honest I didn't wanna buy the game because of the reviews but decided heck it's insomniac and they made me buy 3 spiderman games in the same city and finish all of them! So I gave them a shot. Right off the bat the cutscenes started and graphics are ok, feels like they spent more time on side story and acting that graphics as it didn't feel impressive or anything like Spider-Man. Spiderman on ps4 was better. Then the gameplay length I just finished the prologue and somehow that was 13% of the game? Now actual gameplay. Early on the blue trail wasn't as much but now that I'm in the X-Men house it's literally popping everywhere we even for picking up boxes and this is on medium difficulty. I'm not stupid I can find a box. The game is filled with bugs. I got trapped inside houses I wasn't suppose to go in by simply trying to climb up them as intended and had to restart checkpoint. In certain areas if you walk past the NPC they either stop or you gotta nod them a lot to continue story line. The interact area you gotta be in a specific position and angle god forbid you move a little you can't interact and proceed. Boundary boxes are sometimes too large. Essex sitting on a chair near fireplace and I couldn't walk the giant gap between the desk and his chair and got stuck. I had to walk touching the desk that's how large the bounding box was. This is from 30-40 min of gameplay where I'm constantly stopped by a bug or hit area and when I'm not I get thrown out of immersion by poor graphics at parts. For example the hair animation is awful so why bother doing it? This doesn't feel like an insomniac game and not like the initial trailer that got the hype. This feels like a independent small studio making a game. If you recall marvel avengers game that came out, same level of experience except avengers was move fun in the beginning.

Great game not quite a masterpiece.

Another fantastic game from Insomniac surpasses the Miles Morales standalone in quality but doesn't quite reach the Heights of Spider-Man 2018. Story was probably the weakest part however the combat was solid and in depth if you choose to learn it.

An average game

I really wanted to love this game. I am a huge fan of Insomniac's games and was eagerly waiting to play Wolverine. I avoided all the leaked footage and gameplay and ignored the previews criticizing the game's flaws. Then I played it. Wolverine starts out well enough - the combat is brutal, albeit simple. The voice acting, motion capture, and visuals are incredible. You *feel* like the Wolverine. The longer you play, the more you start noticing the things that keep this game from being great (a few examples): - The hand holding. While this has been greatly exaggerated, the way the game keeps you from failing is downright laughable at times. There are QTEs where you are prompted to press L2. I sometimes pressed R2 by accident, and the game counted that as a correct input anyway. - The combat does get repetitive, unfortunately. Mash square until everyone is dead. This could have been easily addressed by giving the player more choice between stealth versus "Leeroy Jenkins"ing a fight - There were several times in my play throughs (standard and New Game+) where my companion NPC would get stuck and I'd have to reload the previous checkpoint so the game would allow me to move forward - Water. Why include areas where Logan is going to traverse through water if it's going to look like a PS2 game? - Early on in the game, you jump on a tree to slide down from the top of a building. If you don't press the jump button at the bottom, Logan stays hooked to the bottom of the tree trunk in his sliding animation (small, but inexcusable in a game with this budget and production value) Other miscellaneous gripes: - I only noticed this in Tokyo, but where streets are blocked, NPCs can often be seen literally walking over cars - When you are flying into Tokyo, buildings in a cut scene are literal black boxes with white squares for windows - When you arrive in Madripoor, boats are literally traversing water without as much as a ripple of water moving All that being said, I still had fun with the game. I completed both play throughs in roughly 30h combined, including the platinum trophy. Unfortunately, this is a game I wish I had waited to be released on PlayStation Plus.

It was okay

Was excited for the game but the graphics are lacking and the realism doesn’t exist. The combat was a bit clunky and the outfits do nothing which sucks. The story was ok but focuses to heavily on Jean. Game would have been amazing if they kept the same formula as the spiderman games and just inserted Wolverine and his world instead. It’s a shame. It’s an ok playthrough but doesn’t live up to the hype and not worth the money unfortunately.

The Wolverine Experience we've been waiting for.

Insomniac absolutely NAILED the look, the feel, and the combat of Wolverine and how he should play. Absolutely LOVE the linear direction for a more focused story, although the story itself feels very...soulless. The Trask setup into the Essex finale was great, but having Jean be a central character to this story...I would've rather explored his relationship with Yuriko due to the heavy emphasis on The Hand. Also, the lack of connective tissue to their own Spider-Man games despite taking place in the same universe (minus a couple Daily Bugle articles you find) was jarring. Story quirks aside, solid 4/5 title, will definitely play more if there's DLC in the future as it was a pretty quick Platinum.
