A Perfect Game
Story: After losing his memory, Scientist "Morgan Yu" realizes he must blow up a space station infested by blood thirsty aliens.
Gameplay: Prey 2017 is an "Immersive Sim" similar to Dishonored, Deus Ex, and System Shock so naturally there's always another way approaching levels.
While traversing the space station you will come across many different "Typhons" out to kill you, there's the standard "Mimic" which shapeshifts itself into nearby objects, "Phantoms" which can teleport and shoot lazers at you, the "Technopath" which can control allied turrets, operators, and shut down nearby electronics such as doors, machines, or some of your weapons and many more.
Early in the game you will unlock the "Gloo canon" which can shoot a ball of foam that can be used to create platforms to get to harder to reach areas, block off locations, or even freeze Typhons temporarily.
You'll also unlock the "Psychoscope" which you can use to scan Typhons and learn their weaknessness. Some Typhons are weak to Emp, others to fire, some to the gloo canon and once you fully scan a Typhon you will eventually unlock that Typhons abilities but beware that if you unlock too many Typhon abilities ally turrets and operators will turn against you aswell as humans. You can also unlock human abilities that will help in your journey.
Sometimes when you use a skill point a powerful Typhon called the "Nightmare" will hunt you for 2 minutes, this Typhon can pretty much oneshot you so it's best to run into a room, lock the door, and wait the 2 minutes out.
Graphics: Just like Dishonored and Deathloop Prey 2017 has a very unique look to it, it still looks great to this day!
At the time of this review the game is still locked to 30fps on Ps5 sadly.
Replayabilty: Prey 2017 has 2 endings (well technically its 4), theres the option to play on hard mode, there’s also the modifiers for survival mode, and there's ng+
Final Thoguhts: Prey 2017 is a masterpiece to the immersive sim genre with also some horror elements. I highly recommend this gem.
