Game of the Generation

I haven’t ever reviewed a game on here but I just have to with this one. It’s easily the best game I’ve played this generation. The gameplay is sublime and gets more and more addicting the more you play. I’ve never been able to stick with rogue games and even though I liked Returnal I never finished it. I couldn’t put the controller down with Saros. The story is also very mysterious and compelling. It has some very heavy themes that personally resonated with me. Finally the visuals and sound design are truly some of the best I’ve ever experienced. The last time I was this addicted to a gameplay loop was Doom Eternal. Incredible accomplishment

Creates an unscratchable itch

Returnal was one of my favorite games from earlier in this generation - excellent graphics, responsive platforming, and PERFECT gun combat. It used the PS5 controller as it was meant to be used (similar to Astro Bot). Saros delivers in the same way that Returnal did with some nice improvements. The platinum on Returnal was a challenge, but much of it was based on RNG in finding the various collectibles throughout your runs. Saros eliminates all of that. It's a little easier than Returnal IF YOU WANT IT TO BE by the use of modifiers, but they are optional. The only one I used throughout my playthrough was one that made radius for gathering lucenite (the in-game currency) bigger. The story is pretty good and interesting. The graphics are top notch, especially with the particle effects and projectiles. And importantly, as with all other rogue-like/lite games, it leaves you wanting to come back for JUST ONE MORE PLAY. You can feel yourself getting better with each run as you develop strategies against the enemies and in knowing which upgrades to chase/choose. The combat is so incredibly satisfying as well, with the adaptive triggers making you feel every shot and the primary/secondary fire mechanic should be replicated by every other shooter out there. For anyone who is a fan of shooters and rogue-likes, this is a must play.

LOVE

this game is frustrating, visually stunning, fun, sparks the imagination, and a must play. I tried the trial and was immediately convinced I would buy the full version. Looking forward to getting back to the game!!!

Best game I ever played.

This is my personal opinion. This game meets many of the themes I enjoy. I’m really into lovecraftian lore and science fiction. Combine that to a rogue like game setting, and the result is “I haven’t even been able to put this game down since I bought it”. The game is not perfect. Lovecraftian stories have a lot of different narrative tools and I think Saros relies heavily on “everyone is going crazy”. But in the end the story is kinda way in the background. It feels like its purpose is just to inform you what are you doing there. So it doesn’t feel like. a story driven game. But in my case I actually appreciate it. In the end I just want to jump into the action and shoot monsters. And oh boy the mechanics, are insane, the monsters and their attacks are something I never experienced. I’m getting returnal after I’m done with saros. Sometimes I feel I’m watching an action film.

Gameplay is (Yellow) King

If you prefer to just get straight to the fun, Saros is a game built for you. Though the story is fascinating and kept me well engaged from the confounding opening moments to the revealing true ending, the experts at Housemarque never lets the story linger long enough to distract from the pitch perfect action. This also happens to be one of the best looking and sounding games I’ve ever played. If you liked Returnal or if you were intimidated by Returnal, you should absolutely give Saros a try. Once it has its hooks in you, it will be hard to put down.

A no-brainer

Skipping this is doing yourself a diservice. Whether New or returnal you won't be disappointed by the gameplay and tight controls.
