Favorite Story every told in gaming!

Red Dead Redemption holds a special spot in my heart, the game quite literally saved my life, but that's a story for another place and time. RDR was announced way back on February 3, 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. On May 18, 2010, Red Dead Redemption showed me just how endless the possibilities truly were for telling meaningful stories with this medium that is video games. The days of fun but silly stories where the princess is always in another castle as the top dog are long gone. Yes, those stories are still great and serve a purpose, but they do not hold the weight and draw on so many different emotions sometimes at the same time. This game, compared to others, has still held up incredibly well over the years, selling over 25 million copies and over the years snagged multiple Game of the Year awards from places like the Game Developers Choice Awards and Spike Video Game Awards, to name a few. Now, with its new native PS5 port dropping just yesterday on December 2, 2025, complete with free upgrades for PS4 owners, silky 60 FPS gameplay, up to 4K resolution, HDR support, enhanced image quality, and better draw distances, the visuals and performance pop like never before on modern hardware (and it's even hitting PS Plus Game Catalog right away). It first came to PS4 via backward compatibility on August 17, 2023, but this PS5 version takes it to the next level without losing a step. The horse riding mechanics continue to be some of my favorites and the one I always compare others with. RDR feels as fluid and immersive as ever even 15 years later. The soundtrack hits hard and always at the best times, perfectly underscoring those raw emotional punches. Red Dead Redemption takes you on an incredible journey through 1911's dying Wild West, following outlaw turned family man John Marston, brought to unforgettable life by voice actor Rob Wiethoff. John is coerced by the government to hunt down his former gang members in a tale of love, family, sadness, revenge, and of course, redemption. Anyone looking to experience an amazing story and top-tier experience across the board should strongly consider Red Dead Redemption, especially now on PS5. Follow that by playing RDR2 and you will be changed forever in the best way. The only warning I will give is once you start this story and it begins to hit the major beats, you will not be able to stop playing, and even long after the credits roll, you will not be able to stop thinking about the Marstons and REd Dead Redemption.

    Modern Western (almost) Masterpiece

Red Dead Redemption is what happens when technology and vision collide too early. Red Dead Redemption 2023 on PS5 is a redemption story to that. My 4th time rolling the credits on this bad boy and it still has a punch and staying power to it that I can only hope RDR II will be able to sustain through the years.
