Hades II

Not the sequel I expected – bounced immediately

I was pumped for Hades II on PS5 after loving the first game’s tight combat, sharp dialogue, and that clean minimalist style with the cool, stylized gods. It didn’t click from the start. A lot of the new character designs feel heavier and more modern-inclusive than the sleek mythic energy of the original. Hestia especially jumped out as the moment I was done — that grandmotherly version felt so out of place it made me laugh, and I started skipping most of the dialogue. The game doesn’t build the world naturally. It just hits you with a ton of stuff right away. I couldn’t even tell what currency I was using for upgrades half the time. The art shifted from punchy and readable to this busy maximalist look packed with particles, so fights get cluttered fast. Combat might have decent builds if you stick with it, but after the opening I had zero interest in continuing. Put it down quick and deleted it. If you loved Hades 1 for its personality, stylish gods, and addictive flow, this sequel changes a lot of what worked and replaces it with stuff that just doesn’t land the same. Hard pass.
