Rail aficionados know the Glossop Line as a remaining relic from the former Woodhead Line. Truncated at Hadfield, the old line was advanced for its day, featuring steam-era DC electrification, still somewhat present today in the form of older style gantries, albeit modified to support today’s AC technology.
