After Nobunaga's death, Hideyoshi Hashiba, who had defeated Akechi and Shibata, became the real successor to the Oda clan.
The nominal head of the clan, Nobukatsu Oda, opposed this and joined with Ieyasu Tokugawa, who had control of 5 counties.
