The Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe fighter model was developed in the early 40s, with a new “E” wing type with a redesigned weapon compartment and a new tail fin installed. The Israeli Spitfires actively participated in the Israeli War of Independence, in particular, they accompanied B-17 bombers and shot down several Egyptian aircraft. This fighter is capable of reaching a maximum speed of over 650 km/h. The armament consists of two 20mm Hispano Mk.II guns and two 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine guns, additionally the fighter can be equipped with two 250 lb bombs, or sixteen 8-cm Flz-Razete unguided rockets. The premium Spitfire LF.Mk.IXe carries the unique livery of Ezer Weizman, a wartime pilot who later on became president of Israel.
