True to the Hype
I've been a fan of Mortal Kombat as much as any non-gamer can for over a decade – that is, to play Versus at parties, or whatever. MK11 for Switch, same thing. This was included in my Plus subscription and I started playing the story so we could unlock more characters and the artwork is amazing. There's a lot included in this game that I didn't know about initially, so now I'm all in and having so much fun. Definitely worth the hype and I plan to buy the Ultimate versions of like, every game now both for the characters and for the amazing cut scenes.

Excellent!
I have been a fan of Mortal Kombat since the very beginning and I have to say, this is a beautiful game! The graphics and gameplay mechanics are phenomenal, great character roster and the soundtrack is awesome. Invasions mode is a great add to the game to unlock different types of goodies. I highly recommend playing.

A Fatal Missed Opportunity
I went into Mortal Kombat 1 with high hopes, but unfortunately, it felt like one step forward and two steps back for the franchise. While the core fighting feels good, the surrounding systems and choices drag the experience down significantly.
The Story To put it simply, I didn't like the story. Mortal Kombat usually excels at campy, engaging narratives, but this timeline reset just didn’t land for me. It felt like it lacked the impact of previous entries.
Kameos vs. Tag Team The Kameo system is my biggest gripe. It feels like a massive missed opportunity to bring back a proper Tag Team mode like we had in Mortal Kombat 9. Instead of a full-fledged tag mechanic where we swap control between fighters, we got an assist system that feels restrictive. It makes me miss the freedom and chaos of the older games.
Guest Characters & Identity Crisis The guest characters in this game are undeniably cool on their own, but they lack a cohesive theme. In the past, NetherRealm nailed the atmosphere with their DLC—like MKX having a clear Horror movie theme that fit perfectly. MK1 feels like a random assortment of characters thrown together without that unifying thread.
Features & Monetization The step back in customization is baffling. Coming from MK11, which offered deep control over gear and aesthetics, MK1 feels barebones. To make matters worse, the game is riddled with microtransactions. Locking so many things behind paywalls in a full-priced game leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Verdict Between the lackluster story, the regression in customization, and the aggressive monetization, Mortal Kombat 1 struggles to justify its existence alongside its predecessors.

My experience
I mean the game is definitely good. Especially the roster. But one problem I always have is every invasion mode gets more and more difficult and the challenges are extremely unnecessary. So Netherrealm Studios needs to stop making harder challenges and let Invasion mode just be regular like season 1 again

Mixed bag
I am not a fan of the Kameo system.
Great story until you get to the multiverse stuff.
The game delivered incomplete and it is still missing stuff.
The game breaks on nearly every major update.
The game is dominated by very few characters, instead of all being strong.
I love MK and this game is not their best work.

Mortal Kombat 1
It seems so interesting of the new era. Plus hearing the new editions of characters from old and new is also very exciting. To the creators of Mortal Kombat, never stop improving. Keep up the great work.

Its not bad.
The game is fun and the DLCs are top notch and couldn’t wait for Ghostface in the drop but a small criticism is that I’m not a fan of the Kameo fighter system I wish theres a option where You can fight regular 1 on 1 with no Kameos regardless You can play the game without the Kameo but if theres an option where You wanna fight no Kameo just a fair fight I would love this game a little more its not any better than what came before this because MK11 and MKX were leagues better than new MK1 without a doubt but I don’t thats saying its bad its good but not AS good as MK11 and X and I wish this game had more variety to the customization system because MK11 didn’t skimp on that portion the new customization system is VERY little and it makes 11 seem more newer than this game so if theres a step up to the customization system next update also would love that thats My review and for ratings I’ll give this game a fair 7/10.
