Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

As a fan of other Souls games -- Elden Ring, Dark Souls (3, specifically), Lies of P, etc. -- I honestly like this game a lot, actually. I was surprised to see a somewhat negative spin on the game. It's a Souls game through and through. The exploration is great and has several paths that converge back to main areas, so it's hitting that Metroidvania aspect that I wanted. The combat feels fluid and fleshed out too. However, it's not without its flaws. If I had any really complaints though, sometimes the framerate seems like it's about to freak out and crash the game and you also have to unlock the ability to block/parry in the skill tree. I'm not really sure what the idea was with that. The framerate I can live with since it hasn't been super detrimental, and I'll get to that, but several hours into the game and the game decides to throw a boss at you to teach you about the parrying system, which it failed to do in the earlier stages. That really could have had a cleaner explanation and/or just not tied blocking/parrying to a skill tree. I had to respec my stats just to get the ability. As for the framerate, the game sometimes seems like it's about to crash and there are dropped frames even on prioritized FPS. So far, while it's seemed like it's about to crash, it never has and the game seems to right itself and gets back to where you want to be. It's never been so detrimental that it's interrupted a fight or gotten me killed. There's really a lot to like in this game, though. There's the option to avoid run-backs to boss rooms which is really sick. The environments are really gorgeous and cleverly interwoven. And the combat feels good. I've never felt like I've been cheated in an enemy encounter. It really does feel just as good to kill an enemy that has been giving you a hard time, just like any other competent Souls game. Would I recommend this to someone who enjoys a Souls-like experience? Yes, absolutely. Is it perfect? No, but it really does scratch the itch, if you've got it.
