Would be a 4 1/2 star

Very well done, the movement is great. The guns have good recoil. The only thing I think they could improve is the maps. At least a map that's in a jungle of some sort.

Trending in the wrong direction

While the core gameplay is still enjoyable, I was disappointed in how portal/PvE game modes were made irrelevant by taking away XP gains for playing those modes. As someone who LOVES the core gameplay but struggles to compete in PvP lobbies, I was really hoping for Co-op PvE/portal lobbies where I could get the full gameplay experience but at my own pace and still work toward unlocking gadgets and attachments. I'm not looking to "cheese" the progression system or gain any unfair advantages. I just want to enjoy part of the game I thought I was buying. The Redsec addition is fine (maybe even good to give the more competitive players an outlet from destroying me in conquest), but I'm not really into BR. The battle pass progression for non-BR players is also ridiculously slow but that's to be expected. Just STOP advertising premium passes/currency to me. I already paid $70 for the game but feel like I'm being shaken down to spend more on a mode I didn't ask for.

Wish I'd waited for Season 1 and BF Redsec to drop before buying

tldr; Download Battlefield Redsec (free to play BR/gauntlet) and if you like that then maybe consider buying BF6 but know that a lot of what is in Redsec isn't in BF6. Full review: Now that season 1 has landed we're seeing the direction EA is taking BF6 with the addition and focus on Redsec (Free to play BR and Gauntlet). Redsec launches with a massive map, capable of supporting 99 players, with navel warfare, and full building destruction. Meanwhile, BF6 continues to be limited to 64 players, on maps that are at most half of the size of Redsec, with buildings that can't be fully destroyed and no navel warfare. One of the BF6 trailers does show it, but it's from the campaign. The BF6 maps with planes are longer than non plane maps, but they aren't nearly as wide so a lot of time is spent turning around. Maybe these things will be coming to BF6. Time will tell. But even if they do, EA is pushing the battle pass, and Redsec, hard on BF6 owners. Each time you login you'll be shown the Battle Pass and it'll default to showing you the $25 one which you have to dismiss. There is a $10 one, but you have to look to the side to see it. While many of the people skins in the battle pass aren't something I'd be interested in, I was still considering getting it for the weapons skins. However, the battle pass week 1 challenges are split, with exactly half of the challenges, and the tokens you're able to get towards the battle pass, being exclusively for Redsec. You are given four "rerolls", however that isn't enough to reroll all of the Redsec challenges and doesn't guarantee you won't get another Redsec challenge. I'm new to BF and what interested me was that it wasn't BR. After playing BR for the past 8 years I'm just so tired of it. I completely if people like it and they're stoked about Redsec. I think it's great that EA is making that available for those people However, for those of us that don't want to play Redsec we're stuck hoping our rerolls let us complete non Redsec challenges, and if they do, we're still stuck with other challenges we might not want to do but have no way to reroll. I'm not mad, but I am disappointed and would have waited to purchase it knowing what I know now.

Sad

Has all the potential for being what battlefield is supposed to be, but obviously priorities are in the wrong place. Small maps, nonsensical map boundaries that make the small maps even smaller, SMGs better at long range than ARs, hit registration, and not to mention BR seemingly getting more love and attention from the devs than the game that costs 70$. I like the core mechanics of the game but everything else that surrounds it ruins the experience. Not to mention that after having played since launch, it is now boring to play cause it’s the same rinse and repeat meat grinder of infantry running to a point, capturing it, leave it to be taken a 30 seconds later, then going back to get it again. JUST RELEASE THE OG MAPS WITHOUT SHRINKING THEM AND ITLL BE AMAZING!!

EA / Dice lied to make sales.

EA / Dice promised full XP in verified Portal modes. 2 weeks into the game they have reverted from that promised and have taken XP out of Portal. They lied to makes sales.. I purchased the game based on their promise and because I only intended to play Portal modes. DO NOT BUY!

Waaaaaay too many bots!

This game has just become all AI and it is just all bots. Aiming is horrible. Why does the cursor scroll all the way to the left on the mini map?
